Famous Celebrity Death Conspiracies

MARILYN MONROE (June 1, 1926 – August 5, 1962)

The actress, whose real name was Norma Jean, was found dead at her home in Los Angeles on August 5, 1962. The actress was found dead at her home in Los Angeles on August 5, 1962. An autopsy found a cocktail of the drugs choral hydrate and Nembutal in her system and the county coroner recorded the cause of death as acute barbiturate poisoning by accidental overdose.

However, speculation over Monroe’s death continues to this day and centers on her relationships with US President John F. Kennedy and his brother, Robert Kennedy. Most of the theories allege that she was murdered either by the CIA or the Mafia because she knew too much about the Kennedy brothers’ links to organized crime.

ELVIS PRESLEY (January 8, 1935 – August 16, 1977)

Presley was found dead on the floor of his bathroom in Graceland, Memphis, on August 16, 1977. An investigation and autopsy found that he had crawled several feet from the toilet before he died. Two autopsies into his death (one in 1994) concluded that drugs did not play a part and that he was killed by a sudden heart attack. Given Presley’s widely documented prescription drug abuse, most experts believe that a cocktail of drugs killed him.

And yet there are a million and one theories surrounding the death of Presley – by far the most persistent being that he somehow faked his own death in a bid to boost flagging record sales. Hundreds of thousands of supposed sightings of “the King” have been claimed in the three decades since.

The 50-year-old singer died on June 25th and at this time the official cause of death has still to be determined, although it looks like the star died of a heart attack following a lethal cocktail of prescribed drugs.

ANDY KAUFMAN (January 17, 1949 – May 16, 1984)

Andy Kaufman lived a life full of controversy! Towards the end of his life Andy was working on a script that would be the ultimate thing in showbiz history, for someone to actually fake their death, and then resurface. But he knew that the resurfacing in order to work would have to be ten, twenty, thirty years after it in order to really have some clout. He was working on a script about the subject at the time. So it was reported that he had cancer, some strange type of cancer that nobody had ever heard of, and then a year later his death certificate was issued. So actually, if Andy Kaufman is dead or alive still remains a mystery, and we're waiting for the resurfacing, which should be coming up, since the thirty-year anniversary is approaching.

BRUCE LEE Lee (November 27, 1940 – July 20, 1973)

The exact details of Bruce Lee's untimely death are a subject of controversy. The actor was in Hong Kong to discuss a film with former James Bond star George Lazenby. He met with producer Raymond Chow and later drove together to his colleague Betty Ting's house. A little later after Chow left, Lee complained of a headache, and Ting gave him a painkiller, Equagesic, which contained both aspirin and a muscle relaxant. Lee then went to lie down for a nap. But he never woke up. He was just 32-years-old. Although there were no signs of injury, Lee's brain had swollen considerably. Though Lee's death was ruled as 'death by misadventure', his untimely demise fed many theories about his death, including murder involving the Triad society and a supposed curse on him and his family. What was bizarre was that Lee's son Brandon Lee, also an actor, died 20 years after his father, in a freak accident while filming The Crow. He was 28.

JUAN TYRONE GARCIA (May 25, 1950- May 14, 1979)

At 7:21 a.m. on April 4th, 1979, legendary martial artist and movie star Juan Garcia’s wife put a call into police to announce her husband’s mysterious disappearance. On April 19th, 1979, after a massive search, authorities declared Juan dead. Like Andy Kaufman, Juan led a life full of controversy. It plagued him from his early days to the very end. Some conspiracy theorists believe that the mob kidnapped and killed Juan after much debt owed to them. It is rumored that the mob was also financing his last movie which he never finished Kung Fu Star Fighters. Others believe Juan paid the mob to protect him and keep him in hiding after years under the world’s spotlight. However, there has been a recent undercurrent among the Entertainment industry that a small, powerful group of Hollywood elite is in fact responsible for Juan Tyrone Garcia’s disappearance and possible death. Like Elvis, there have been many Juan sightings since 1979. A passionate bi-polarization regarding his fate has formed, among his fan base, over his mysterious disappearance. Is he dead? Is he alive? His body has never been found.

JIM MORRISON (December 8, 1943 – July 3, 1971)

Jim Morrison probably has the most conspiracy theories of any celebrity out there. Supposedly he died of a heroin overdose while submerged in a bathtub in a Paris apartment. Other reports said that he died in a club and six of his friends carried him to the apartment, so he could die there. The details of this incident are what make it interesting. Supposedly he is buried in a famous French cemetery that no foreigners are allowed to be buried in. His grave was unmarked for three months, and the person that signed his death certificate cannot be found and the only one who supposedly witnessed his death, his girlfriend, had committed suicide shortly after. So no one actually viewed his dead body and to this day, people do sightings at his grave in France and see an aged hippie checking on the amount of flowers that are left on the tombstone everyday. It was a well-known rumor that Jim Morrison wanted to be a member of the 27 Club a.k.a. Forever 27 Club, which consisted of influential blues and rock musicians who all died at 27.

BRANDON LEE (February 1, 1965 – March 31, 1993)

Bruce Lee’s son Brandon was shot on set during the filming of The Crow in an accident: an attempt to create fake bullets out of live ones that went horribly wrong. Lee was fatally wounded in the last days of filming and died in hospital.

It is not known who made the error that left a real bullet in the barrel when the fake cartridge went off. It has led to wild conspiracy theories about Lee’s death, especially since his father also died in strange circumstances.

DAVID CARRADINE (December 8, 1936 - June 3, 2009)

The 72-year-old star of the Kung Fu TV series and Kill Bill films was found dead on June 4, 2009 in his room at the Swissotel Nail Lert Park Hotel in Bangkok, Thailand. Police reported that he had been found hanging in a wardrobe. Other more lurid reports suggested he had died after some kind of sado-masochistic incident. A pathologist stated that autoerotic asphyxiation was the most likely cause of death and a police chief said that CCTV footage at the hotel showed that nobody else had been involved.

The day after his death, Carradine’s family’s lawyer dismissed the idea that the actor had committed suicide and suggested that he could have been murdered by a gang of kung fu assassins after it was revealed he was planning to uncover groups in the martial arts underworld.

ANNA NICOLE SMITH (November 28, 1967 – February 8, 2007)

The model and actress, whose birth name was Vickie Lynn Marshall, was found dead at 39 from an overdose of prescription drugs in a hotel in Florida on February 8, 2007. An official investigation concluded that a cocktail of drugs had killed her.

Within days of Nicole Smith’s death, the web was alive with speculation over the striking similarity with the death of her son, Daniel, who had been killed a few months earlier from a cocktail of drugs.

WILLIAM DESMOND TAYLOR (April 26, 1872 – February 1, 1922)

The death of director William Desmond Taylor (aka William Deane Tanner) is one of Hollywood's most pervasive mysteries. Conspiracy theories abound: was it Charlotte Shelby, jealous, overprotective mother of ingénue actress Mary Miles Minter? Was it Edward Sands the former employee known to have robbed Taylor? Was Sands Taylor's brother? What about the death bed confession of Patricia Palmer? Where did the Minter fortune go? Where was more than half Taylor's fortune for that matter? Did Mabel Normand have a drug habit that was connected to the murder? To date no conclusive answers have ever been found.

MICHAEL JACKSON (August 29, 1958 – June 25, 2009)

It took just hours after Jackson’s death for the first conspiracy theories to start circulating. The most popular is that the singer faked his death in order to escape the media spotlight and impending bankruptcy.
